High School Hockey Clubs In the Community

by Keith Andresen

Members of our League spent part of their Holiday Season helping the community.

The Attack Ice Hockey Club hosted an introduction to hockey night with our local Downs Syndrome Community. Attack players and coaches worked several excited young athletes through agility, strength and hockey conditioning off ice drills teaching the fundamentals of foot work, hand eye coordination and stamina. After a quick snack break and some chalk talk time, team DS took on their Attack hosts in a thrilling street hockey match. The back and forth battle culminated in a 5-4 victory for team DS! After the game, Attack coaches hosted a show and tell and try on of hockey gear while both the Attack JV and Varsity geared up for an on ice scrimmage. Each guest was then paired with a player host who took time off the ice to explain what was happening on ice. At the end of the scrimmage, each guest received a commemorative hockey puck! A great time was had by all!

The Frisco Ice Hockey Association held their annual food drive to help the Frisco Food Pantry help provide food for families in need. People were invited to donate food in exchange for admission to a night of skating with the team at the Comerica Center.  Thank you to both clubs for their efforts.
